Color, light, perspective and repetition often speak to me and I long to capture that special moment in time. Often it’s nothing too memorable, but a simple and elegant image that I would find myself rediscovering again years later. Below are some recent photographs taken in the spur of moment, for no particular reason.
Beautiful colors from the early afternoon shine through the white blinds to create a romantic scene
The rhythm and repetition of the blue blinds is a stunning harmonious contrast to the rhythm of the vertical curtain
The rhythm and repetition of musical instruments is always captivating
Feel the strumming keys and listen to the music in your mind
Now here are two random photos that I found in my camera taken a few months back, while we were in the Fox Theatre in Redwood City for a company event.
A view of the ice skating rink outside of the Fox Theatre (taken from the library across the street), such a lovely scene
Water fountains near the Fox Theatre, the musical harmony of the running water
Last, but not least, I have two photos of a romantic water fountain in New York, near our hotel in Howard Beach. As we were walking back late at night after dinner, we came across this lovely spectacle. The glow of the purple lights illuminated this fountain to appear magical and I caught it on my camera phone. A glimpse of it in broad daylight was definitely not as intriguing.
Oh, so elegant
Bathe in the purple light and hear the music of the running water
The theme for this month’s Inspirational Circle was “mood,” and I kept that in mind on my trip to New York, with my eyes wide open, not really knowing what to expect. The 5 short days immediately flew by, as there was so much to do and experience. The Manhattan skyline was definitely beautiful and I got some nice shots of it from Top of the Rock and the Brooklyn Bridge. The City of Lights is an urban beauty.
However; if you travel to the south, you will come across Coney Island and watch the waves crash against the shore as the sun starts to set, and be mesmerized. The feeling on this island is refreshing and serene, a nice getaway from the hectic city. Here you can take a deep breath and enjoy the moment, while escaping from all the people.
Aside from beautiful scenery, another place to find a variety of “moods” is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, home of many amazing sculptures and paintings. Here, you can see human expressions carved skillfully into marble and bronze, as well as engaging uses of chiaroscuro. You can easily spend 3 hours in this timeless museum admiring centuries of work.
Well, enough said, here are the images 🙂
Remember being given a word, an idea or a theme and using that as inspiration? Remember the excitement that ran through your mind and traveled to your fingertips as your idea came to life?
The Inspirational Circle is back! This month’s theme is “mood”. Let go of your creative block, and let the Inspirational Circle inspire you. So go ahead and brainstorm brilliant ideas and share them here with your fellow peers on our Facebook Event!
All creative work will be considered – drawing, painting, photography, poetry, prose, mixed media, sculpture, etc. If you post the work of others as inspiration, please cite the original source to give the artist credit. Please spread the word and invite others to join in.
Alright, to get started, here are definitions of Psychological Mood and Grammatical Mood. You can decide whether your subject matter is a person, place or thing – just be sure to focus on lighting and emotional expression as those would be your strongest assets here 🙂
Here are some images I found online to help inspire you.
And here is a poem that I wrote in December that illustrates “mood” pretty well. I really wanted to post my “Ominous” poem, but I couldn’t fine a typed copy of it, so “Twilight” it is.
The soft glow emanates from the sky,
no longer beautiful pinks and purples,
but a dark, dark blue and a dim, dim black.
My eyes adjust to the darkness,
as a chill goes up my spine.
Ducks and crickets sing to the night,
fish perform acrobatics
in the lake
causing ripples to spread,
here, there, everywhere…
I feel your hand embrace mine,
the warmth tingles up my spine
as I lean in close to you
hearing your heart beat
We watch the day turn to night,
listening to nature’s symphony.
